idea for this film was derived from the high profile case of Shakilus Townsend.

Rebecca
Johnson used crowd funding – presenting your film to possible investors to fund
the production of film. She used the film festivals such as BFI festival, LA
Film Festival, International film festival Rotterdam etc.

Johnson
chose to tell this particular story because she felt a character like Layla had
not taken centre stage before and it was time her story was told.
Distribution and
marketing

Trap was distributed by Anchor Bay

Although
it is a low budget film, Johnson has distributed it to 10 cinemas.

Trap was marketed using social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

The
director collaborated with BFI as it added credibility and adds more funding.
Exchange

After
the release in January 2015, Honey Trap will be available to watch in 10
cinemas.

It has
already been shown at the BFI film festival.
